Coming Up
Who does what, and when

This year the Wolves and Bears will meet together!

Many of the activities we do will count toward badges for both groups.

In October we will have two den meetings, on the first and third Mondays of the month in the afternoon.  In November and throughout the rest of the year, den meetings will be on Thursdays in the afternoon.  If this does not work for you, please let me know immediately so that we can discuss changes to this schedule.

This year we will have one boy at each den meeting who is responsible for helping in whatever way is necessary, including setup and cleanup.  Boys will all take turns being “Denner” for a meeting.  Denners will also lead the flag salute.  Wolves, read A-2b (p.48) to prepare for this.  For Bears, being a Denner fulfills A-24b (p.175).  If you are Denner, please arrive early and plan to stay a few minutes late for that meeting.

Den Meetings:
October 3rd, 4:15 at the Scout Cabin
     Denner:   Peter
     Snack:    Jason
October 17th, 4:15 at the Scout Cabin
     Denner:   Asher
     Snack:    Seth

What you might do at home in October

Work toward your badge at home.  Complete Achievement 1: Feats of Skill.  Chart your health habits for two weeks (A-3a).

Bears:
Bears have some choices this year.

There are 24 Achievements, each with several parts.  From those 24, you must choose 12 to complete.  The Achievements are divided into four categories: God, Country, Family, and Self.  You must do one God Achievement (#1-2), three Country Achievements (#3-7), four Family Achievements (#8-13), and four Self Achievements (#14-24).

I have chosen some of the Achievements that we will work on as part of our den meetings this year:

  • #3 What Makes America Special?
  • #5 Sharing Your World With Wildlife
  • #6 Take Care of Your Planet
  • #9 What’s Cooking?
  • #14 Ride Right
  • #19 Shavings and Chips
  • #20 Sawdust and Nails
  • #24 Be a Leader

Some of these will also require some work at home if you choose to apply them toward your Bear Badge.

You will also have some work to do at home on other Achievements.  At home, you will need to choose and complete:

  • God: Choose One
    • #1 Ways We Worship
    • #2 Emblems of Faith
  • Family:   Choose Three
    • #8 The Past is Exciting and Important
    • #10 Family Fun
    • #11 Be Ready
    • #12 Family Outdoor Adventures
