Introducing Webelos for 2011-2012

Welcome back, Webelos Scouts and Families!

Summer Achievements

Be Sure These Are Recorded in Your Book

Be sure to read through the Activity Badges in your Webelos book and sign off any parts you may have completed this summer.  All of your activities from June to the present count toward your awards this year.

Coming Up

Who does what, and when

In October we will have two den meetings, on the first and third Mondays of the month in the evening.  In November and throughout the rest of the year, this schedule will change.  We will discuss the best meeting time for our group and find a regular day and time for the rest of the year.

There will be one boy at each den meeting who is responsible for helping in whatever way is necessary, including setup and cleanup.  Boys will all take turns being “Denner” for a meeting.  Denners will also lead the flag salute.  Read page 53 to prepare for this.  If you are Denner, please arrive early and plan to stay a few minutes late for that meeting.

Den Meetings:

October 3rd, 6:30 at the Scout Cabin
     Denner:   Benjamin
     Snack:    Brian

October 17th, 6:30 at the Scout Cabin

What you might do at home in October

Work toward your badges

Work on the following Webelos Badge Requirements at home (found on page 49 in your Webelos book):

  • #1   An adult will need to complete this requirement
  • #2   Be prepared to be an active member of your den
  • #6   Prepare to lead a flag ceremony at the den meeting when you are Denner.  Read page 53.
  • #8   Choose which Faith option you will work on: d or e.  This part of your badge will be done entirely at home.

Adult Help I Will Need This Year

As always, I will need your help for a successful Cub Scout program.

Remember, the Cub Scout rules are strict: I am never allowed to be alone with any boys other than my own.  If you are dropping off a scout, please wait until at least one other parent arrives.  Also, if yours is not the last Scout out the door, please do not leave at the end of a meeting unless at least one other adult is still present.  I really need your help with this, for the protection of your boys and also for my own protection.

Please take a look at the Activity Badges available for the Webelos program.  If you one of these is in an area you are familiar with, you might be the best person to help lead that Activity Badge sometime in the next two years.  Let me know if you think you might be willing to do this.  I will help you all I can!
